If you book an appointment with a student adviser via our online booking system your appointment will take place on the ground floor of the Library in the ASK 1-2-1 room (Bann 019b).

During term-time, Maths & Numeracy drop-in hours are as follows:

• Monday 1pm - 3pm
• Wednesday 1pm - 3pm
• Thursday 4pm - 6pm

During term-time, Statistics & SPSS drop-in hours are as follows:

• Monday 10am - 12pm
• Tuesday 10am - 12pm
• Thursday 10am - 12pm

Drop-ins take place in the ASK Workshop Room (Bann 019a) on the ground floor of the Library and are first come, first served.

If you'd like to meet with a Writing and Learning adviser you can make an appointment via our online booking system (term-time only). These are offered Monday-Friday and are available to book a week in advance. One slot per student per day!

Outside of term-time, just email us at ask@brunel.ac.uk and we'll set something up with you.

For Maths and Statistics, we offer drop-ins throughout the week in the ASK Workshop Room (Bann 019a) on the Library ground floor. Please see our web pages for exact times.

No, the University and ASK Academic Skills do not offer a proofreading service.

Brunel students can send ASK a 500 word sample of their work, using this form, to ask@brunel.ac.uk and we can give you feedback on your writing style, such as your grammar, level of analysis or structure, and so forth.

However, we do not correct every mistake but instead focus on where you can improve and give you advice on how to correct the errors yourself in future. The aim of this is so that you can learn to proof read yourself - a valuable skill for study and employment.

Our extensive ASK section has handouts, links to external resources, video tutorials and e-lessons to support your learning at Brunel, as well as slides from all the workshops we present during the year. Every student at Brunel is automatically granted access to this section, so we encourage you to make the most of this resource. (Please note you will need to log in).

Brunel Study Skills collection

The Library have a number of books to support your learning and skills development. These can be found on the shelves by the ASK Workshop and 1-2-1 Room on the ground floor of the Library.

Advice sheets

There are hard copies Maths 'quick guides' on the stands by the ASK Workshop Room and Writing and Learning handouts in the ASK 1-2-1 Room. You will also find many of these documents (and more!) on the ASK Blackboard Learn section.

ASK is avaliable to all students, so you are welcome to attend our drop-ins and workshops.

However, if you haven't done so already, you will need to visit the Disability and Dyslexia Service for an assessment as soon as you can as you may be able to get additional, specialised help.

ASK is available to all students but there are specific services provided at Brunel to raise your confidence in written and spoken English. The Brunel Language Centre offer English language support and tuition to all students who don't have English as their first language.

Yes, ASK is for all students at Brunel. However, you may find that the workshops and advice provided by the Graduate School may be more relevant for issues specific to postgraduate study. If you'd like to book a 1-2-1 with one of our advisers please email us at ask@brunel.ac.uk

There is qualitative software, NVivo, that you can download from the Connect Portal. If you log in, and go to the My Apps tab, NVivo is one of the options for download. There is a guide you can also download which will help you learn how to use it. NVivo isn’t installed on Library computers. You could check with your Department whether it’s on any computers there. Otherwise, you’ll need to download it to your own computer.
