Lab 4: Creative Technology, Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Lab Lead: Dr Marios Samdanis, Senior Lecturer in Strategy, Entrepreneurship and International Management
Mission: This research lab aims to explore the interactions between creativity, entrepreneurship, sustainability and social change. Creativity is a driver of social entrepreneurship, innovation and community-driven social change, and a process that gives rise to sustainable products and solutions. By engaging with action research, qualitative, and experimental methodologies, this research lab investigates the role of art, design and technology in supporting equality, social inclusion and environmental sustainability. In this lab, we explore the role of designers, creative technologies and cultural institutions as enablers of social innovation. More specifically, we investigate designer-centric and community-centric approaches to social innovation, focusing on the role of creative technologies in facilitating and promoting prosocial behaviours in private, public and digital spaces. By establishing collaborations with artists, designers, educators and cultural institutions, we aim to create an interdisciplinary forum and network in which the practices, values and ethics of sustainable design are negotiated and applied.
