Once you’ve done some general research into your career of interest, you may want to investigate your sector in a bit more detail. We’ve compiled some resources for you including useful websites, recruitment specialists and professional organisations.
It’s important to remember that these are more than just potential sources for vacancies; keeping informed about industry news will really help you when it comes to answering interview questions and preparing applications that stand out from the crowd.

- Foundations For Teaching Foundations for Teaching is a magazine you can receive on registering with this website. It explains what life as a teacher is like and outlines how you can apply for a PCGE or PGDE course. Once you have started your PGCE, you can apply for the sister magazine Foundations for Teaching Careers. This free magazine explains how you can find a job after you finish your course, with articles on job applications etc

- Graduate Teacher Training Registry (GTTR) The GTTR processes applications for entry to Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) courses
- Higher Education Academy The Academy supports the higher education community - supporting individual and teaching professionals, senior managers in institutions and subject and discipline groups
- Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) Promotes and funds high quality, cost-effective teaching and research
- Independent Schools Association Provides professional support to its 300 member headteachers and offers a wide range of sport and cultural activities to the pupils in the independent schools
- Independent Schools Council Promotes choice, diversity and excellence of UK independent education both at home and abroad
- Institute for Learning Professional body for teachers, trainers and student teachers in the learning and skills sector
- National Association of Professional Teaching Assistants (NAPTA) Provides support for teaching assistants through a workforce development programme including news, information and planning resources
- New 2 Teaching Part of ATL's website (Association of Teachers and Lecturers) for all those new to teaching, providing advice and information
- Ofsted Office for Standards in Education - children's services and skills. Reports directly to Parliament and is independent and impartial. Ofsted inspects and regulates services which provide education and skills for learners of all ages
- Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) Exists to assure standards and improve the quality of UK higher education
- Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) National agency and recognised sector body responsible for the training and development of the school workforce. Website has a variety of information about teaching and ways to get into teaching
- University and College Union Trade union and professional association for academics, lecturers, trainers, researchers and academic-related staff working in further and higher education throughout the UK
- Voice Union for education professionals - teaching, childcare and support staff and students
