Israt is currently working as a postdoctoral Research Associate in Additive Manufacturing (AM) in the Department of Design at Brunel University London. She attained her Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering from City, University of London in March 2019. Her focus of the Ph.D. was to develop Finite Element Model of an advanced laser surface modification treatment for metals and alloys. She completed both B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering (MME) from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka.

Israt earned a complementary blend of experimental and fundamental research experience through her academic and professional background. While studying undergraduate and postgraduate in MME, she has received hands-on experience in metallography, several materials characterisation techniques, and relevant fields. She has then switched in to fundamental and theoretical research in her Ph.D. and gathered knowledge and experience on modelling and simulation of the engineering process. Modelling of a scientific process has a reciprocal relationship with practical experiments to embrace innovative and advanced technologies of the millennia which is now supported by the boon of  advancement of information technology (IT).  With this combination, Israt is now looking forward to establishing an academic career in finding robust and economic solutions of advanced manufacturing and materials engineering through research and education to serve worldwide.

Israt’s research interests include process and materials development in Additive Manufacturing and other manufacturing techniques, development of modelling techniques in microstructure analysis and property prediction for materials selection and optimise the processes.

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, City, University of London
  • M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, BUET
  • Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA)

Israt is working in an EU-funded project INEX- ADAM (Horizon 2020) with other colleagues including Dr Eujin Pei, Dr Busayawan Lam and Dr Fabrizio Ceschin. The project collaborates with other European partners from Croatia, Sweden, Austria and Spain. Israt is responsible to –

  • conduct research on mapping out the competencies and expertise in Additive Manufacturing (AM) of all partners
  • create teaching materials and deliver workshops on Materials Modelling of Metal Functionally Graded AM
  • perform administrative activities
