Environmental Management System Phase 1-3 Accreditation
The University has succeeded in attaining Phases 1-3 accreditation with the Acorn (BS8555) Environmental Management System. Acorn is a British standard that ultimately leads to ISO14001.
Acorn offers accreditation for organisations committed to evaluating and improving their environmental performance through phased implementation of an Environmental Management System.
Phase 3 Accreditation assures that the University has sound management programmes and operational procedures in place to comply with legislative and other voluntary requirements and to meet its objectives and targets to reduce its negative environmental impacts in all key areas of its operation.
Following the phased approach of the Acorn scheme, the University aims to apply for ISO14001 by 2012/13.
